Happy Monday! Here are a few thoughts bouncing around in my head after a week of reading, podcasts and other continuing ed. Enjoy!
- “May people see change as a threat. But the real threat is resisting change.” – Tim Kight
- I really think our profession does a lot of things simply because it is the way things have always been done. Perfect example would be Power Cleans vs. Trap Bar Jump Squats. Trap Bar Jump Squat can do the same thing, require the same intent, train explosive triple extension, have you finish the movement in an athletic position, but not have to rack the bar and start in a more friendly position. What’s not to like – yet we just want to do what we always do.
- All great strength coaches are thieves. They steal anything great they can find from other coaches and apply it to their programs. If they aren’t, they are doing a disservice to the clients or athletes that they are working with.
- Constant reminder to myself and other coaches: fundamentals over fluff. The big rocks have always worked and they’ll continue to work.
