How We Implement Explosive Step Ups

For the last year or two I have been implementing Explosive Step Ups with most of the teams I work with, but for slightly different reasons with different teams.

For example, with Volleyball 🏐, who I am a little more selective with when it comes to power work because of potential shoulder issues, I will use the movement as an alternative to the traditional power work from time to time, especially in-season.

On the other hand, with a team like women’s hockey 🏒, who relies heavily on single leg power when skating, I could use it as a stand-alone power movement as previously mentioned with 🏐, but I typically use the movement in a PAP/contrast pairing following a heavy split squat/single leg strength movement.
