Test and train what matters.
If you really watch the sport, you realize that hockey is all about rapid acceleration. In a typical shift, most players will never reach top speed but will be asked to accelerate in small spaces numerous times, with most races for pucks and/or possession won by the player with the most explosive first few steps…which is why we put such a heavy emphasis on acceleration at least 1-2x a week year round.
