In-Season Strength Training

Too often coaches/athletes/parents look at in-season training as a ‘maintenance’ period — which I get due to the fact that games and daily practices can be extremely rigorous.

But, continuing to not only strength train, but continue to try to improve strength in-season is critical in making improvements in speed and power output while simultaneously helping to keep athletes healthy.

As long as the program is intelligently laid out, periodized and monitored for fatigue, and provides proper recovery, in-season will actually enhance performance as the season moves forward, not hamper it.
