Lateral Squat Progression

Anyone that follows me know that I think that most people would benefit from spending more time training outside of the sagittal plane. It seems that most of what many athletes and general population does is in the sagittal plane, whether it’s the warm up or actual training session.

Because of that, I think the Lateral Squat is one of the most under-utilized and undervalued exercises out there. The movement allows us to develop frontal plane hip mobility as well as both addiction and abduction strength.

For many athletes we are able to start with a Goblet loaded version of the movement, while many general population clients would benefit from an assisted version of the movement and then progressing from there.
