Don’t Overlook the Benefits of the Side Plank

Today is Day 7️⃣ and the start of #30daysofcore where I’ll share some tips and thoughts on core work for the next 30 days.

We previously talked about developing the ability to resist extension of the lumbar spine may be the most important part of core training for both performance and health/injury prevention, but developing anti-lateral flexion strength/stability is also extremely important.

Which is why the Side Plank progression is a staple in our programming. Many people wouldn’t think that this progression is too easy or that they are too advanced, but being able to master a simple front plank will set the foundation for all the more advanced core training that people want to perform.

The Side Plank progression looks something like this;

1️⃣ Side Plank
2️⃣ Feet Elevated Side Plank
3️⃣ Feet Elevated Weighted Side Plank
4️⃣ Side Plank Row
5️⃣ Feet Elevated Side Plank Row
