Why Program the Dumbbell Snatch?

The Dumbbell Snatch is one of my favorite Olympic lifting alternatives that we use with our athletes.

One, it allows us to train power in a uni-lateral manner, requiring the athlete to show both shoulder and core stability.

Two, it is relatively easy to learn, making it an ideal exercise to program in group and/or team setting.

Three, it is becoming more and more rare that you will find athletes with the required shoulder mobility to snatch with a barbell…but do have the mobility to use a dumbbell (one vs. two arms overhead is a HUGE difference), making it a safer option in my opinion.
