Why and When We Use the Hurdle Jump

The Hurdle Jump and Stick is a progression we use after an athlete has mastered the Box Jump.

The biggest change the athlete has to deal with when progressing to the hurdles is that they now experience a much greater eccentric load due to gravity on the way down — where the box eliminated the eccentric position, now the athlete is actually accelerating on the way down before landing.

We typically perform 3 sets of 5 reps, keeping our total jumps to around 15 contacts per day.

More information on how we develop power, including all of our progressions in doing so, can be found in my Ultimate Power Development Program, which you can find HERE!
